The PMYP Laptop Scheme had its roots back in Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif in 2013. When Nawaz Sharif was in power, he started many schemes for the youth, including the laptop scheme. At that time, the opposition in the parliament criticizes him for launching such schemes and pointing out the millions of rupees in corruption scandals.
The PML-N government conducted the past two phases of the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme in Federal and Punjab provinces under the leadership of current Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. These schemes are no doubt have always been known as Mega Corruptions scandals, but no one proved anything about the Sharif brothers.
What Is PM Laptop Scheme
Before we start talking about the process of how you can apply online for the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme, knowing what a PM laptop Scheme is essential. In the prime minister laptop scheme, talented students from all over Pakistan participate in the free giveaway of laptops by the federal government.
Students have to go through specific eligibility criteria, and if they are not eligible, they will not receive their laptops. These students are also required to be from an eligible university as well. In the past two phases of the PM laptop schemes, private universities were not been added, but in the current third phase, Private universities are added to the scheme.
How to Apply Online For a Free Laptop
HEC developed an online portal where students from eligible universities can apply online for the prime minister laptop scheme 2023. HEC is the governing body of the scheme and has the right to accept, cancel and remove any entry of a student with no explanation.
Students from different universities can apply online through the official website of the prime minister youth program. The current chairperson of the PMYP is Shaza Khawaja, daughter of current defense minister Khawaja Asif.
Shaza Khawaja announced the laptop scheme on her official Twitter handlers and released a video showing the process of applying online for the free laptop scheme by the Prime Minister.
Eligible University List for PM Laptop Scheme
The following list of universities from all 4 provinces, including Fata, AJK, and Gilgit Baltistan, are eligible to participate in the PM Laptop Scheme. The laptop distribution among these universities will follow a pre-defined quota designed by the Chairperson of PMYP and Pifra.

Ineligible Students
The Prime Minister Youth Laptop Scheme 2023 is the third phase of the laptop scheme program by the Government of Pakistan. To avoid any fake entries and scams, HEC released several points to be followed before releasing the final merit list.
If you fall into the following points, you are sadly not eligible for the Prime Minster Laptop Scheme:
- Students enrolled in a non-recognized private sector university.
- Students who had already received a laptop in the last 2 phases.
- Foreign Nationals are studying in Pakistani universities.
- Students who did not apply online from an eligible university.
- The final eligibility of a student will be determined at the time of the Laptop Distribution Ceremony. Students failed to present their documents will not be rewarded with a laptop.
- Any eligible student who had graduated before the time of the distribution ceremony in their university.

Distribution Criteria for PM Laptop Scheme
The following criteria will be followed for distributing laptops among the selected students. The criteria are before changes; the government can change anything in the following criteria.
- Laptop distribution will be purely made on merit according to each degree program.
- Share in the laptop scheme will be determined according to the number of registration and the university quota assigned by the Federal Government.
- As per Federal Government directions, the quota for Balochistan is fixed at 14% (Distributed among all the eligible universities of Balochistan)
